The Tax
Assessor/Collector
of Denton County

The Tax Assessor/Collector is the constitutional office directed to assess (calculate) and collect all ad valorem tax accounts as indicated and valued by the established appraisal district for each county. The Denton County Tax Office also collects property taxes for nearly 70 other taxing jurisdictions (school districts, cities and special districts).

The Tax Assessor/Collector is designated by statute as the agent for the state Department of Transportation for collection of motor vehicle fees and titling functions. Every owner of a motor vehicle is required to register it with the Tax Assessor in the county in which the owner resides.

The Tax Assessor/Collector is an authorized agent for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). TABC requires alcoholic beverage manufacturers, distributors, retailers, etc. to apply for licenses and permits before they may operate in the State of Texas. As an authorized agent, the Denton County Tax Office collects state and county fees on several different types of licenses and permits.
